WHITE SAGE

For hundreds of years, white sage has been considered a sacred, cleansing, purifying, and protective plant. The smoke emitted from burning Sage can be used to rid a person, space or object of negative energy. Sage emits negative ions and our aura holds positive ions. Through the smoke cleansing process we can neutralise our aura or the energy of other spaces and objects to cleanse and renew.

PALO SANTO

Palo Santo has a long history of use by the native people of South America as an essential tool in sacred shamanic rituals for its energetic cleansing and medicinal healing properties. The mystical tree is part of the citrus family and has sweet notes of pine, mint and lemon. The calming and relaxing aroma of Palo Santo is even more present from the smoke of the smouldering wood.

Today it is continued to be enjoyed for its cleansing and healing properties, much like sage, to release negative energies and negative thoughts and feelings. The smoke provides an uplifting scent that calms the mind and raises your vibration in preparation for meditation and provides a deeper spiritual connection.

SELENITE

A stone for clarity & guidance, Selenite aids to clear your mind, sharpen your awareness and restore balance of the body & mind. The gentle healing qualities of Selenite also provide protection from negative energy so is great to keep in your home or sacred space. Selenite is also great for cleansing your other crystals.

Size: 10x2cm approx

How To Use:

Simply light the end of the stick of Palo Santo or Sage until it starts to produce smoke. You can then use the smoke to cleanse the Aura of a person by holding it close to and around the body, allowing the smoke to surround them.

Alternatively when cleansing a room simply walk around the room allowing the smoke to flow. While doing so hold the intention that you are purifying the person or room of any negative energies or emotions, making room for more light to enter. The sticks will burn out easily so you may re-light them as you go to keep them smouldering or allow them to go out once you have finished, ready for their next use.

The Selenite can be placed in a room to help cleanse negative energy, placed to your third eye for for an instant mental declutter, swept from head to toe to cleanse your energy field or if cleansing other crystals simply lay them on the Selenite wand overnight.

The Term Smudging and Respecting Native American Culture:

In honour of Native American culture and other Indigenous tribes around the world, I choose not to use the word ‘Smudge’ or ‘Smudging’.

Smudging has become a term widely used  by many in recent times as the act of burning sage to cleanse a person or home, however in Native American culture smudging is not simply burning sage, it’s actually the act of their prayer rituals, sweat lodge and Sundance, which are sacred practices.

In the United States, it was illegal for Natives to use sage until the 1978 passing of the American Indian Religious Freedom Act. Up until this time so many of their people fought and died to protect their knowledge and traditions. Respecting sage and the practice of smudging means we are respecting Native Americans.

Smudging is very specific to prayer, but you can burn sage without smudging. I prefer to use the term ’Smoke Cleansing’. Smoke cleansing can look a lot like smudging, but it’s just the simple act of burning herbs, wood, incense, or other safe-to-burn materials that possess unique cleansing properties. The smoke is then waved over the area you want to cleanse. Some cultures may have spiritual practices connected to smoke cleansing, but the act of smoke cleansing is not inherently spiritual or specific to a certain culture, like smudging is.
